It is important when using X-Products to use them correctly to maximize their efficiency. Doing so results in needing less of them and making them last longer. Stated differently, they absorb more of what you are trying to remove and for longer when you do. This saves you money and speeds the tank cleaning process up.
Correct use includes the following criteria:
- Make sure that aquarium water flows through the compound and not by and over it. In the latter case the compound cannot remove anything, since it does not have good contact with the tank's water. Mind you, if you pre-treat water the remarks made apply as well.
- If placed in a bag or pouch, clean that bag or pouch regularly. This removes fish and invertebrate slime which prevents water from coming in contact with the compound.
- When no contact occurs, or when the contact is not good, the removal rate is not good either and you may then be under the false impression that the compound does not work (do what it is supposed to), or that it is exhausted and needs to be replaced. This may not be so. The problem may be that because there is no contact with the water, the compound cannot remove what it is suppopsed to remove.
- Selecting the right area to place the compound is, therefore, very important. It ensures that the product does what it is supposed to do and does so until it is fully exhausted.
