Calibrating Pinpoint pH meters

Thank you Barry Pearlman for this contribution

To calibrate Pinpoint pH, do the following:

1. Clean the probe with an old toothbrush and some tank water. Just brush off any built up algae or gunk. Too rough and you can damage the probe tip.

2. Put the 7.0 solution in one cup (coffee cup works fine), the 10.0 in a second cup, and put clean water for rinsing between solutions in a third cup.

3. Put the probe in the 7.0 solution (might have tip the cup to fully immerse the probe tip) and leave it for about a half an hour, or until the reading stabilizes. Adjust the little screw marked "7" for a reading of o 7.00 on the display.

4. Rinse the probe in the clean water, shake off the excess, and then put it in the 10.00 solution. Let it stabilize and adjust the screw marked "4,10" on the front of the instrument to 10.00.

5. Rinse the probe and check the 7.00 again. If off, readjust.

6. Then the 10.0 again. Keep doing this until you get 7.00 and 10.00. You should be able to get it ? .01. If you are careful to rinse and shake the water off between solutions you should be able to get it after a couple of back and forths.

7. You will find that if you clean the probe every month or so, a calibration should hold you about 6 months.
